I read 100yrs a long time ago. One of my best ever reads. When I saw that it was available as a series on Netflix, I was not convinced that the series could in any way capture the atmosphere and the magic realism of the book. I started watching and thought episode one… OK it was OK… Then the book started to happen and take shape on screen in a most astounding way. The acting is honest and earthy. The directing just unbelievable. How the snall cameo scenes fit into the larger expanse of the book , touching. The magic realism was handled with delicate fingers. The human drama and the psyche of humanity exposed with understating emotions . All wrapped up in the magical landscape that is Macondo. Even better than I pictured it for myself. The editing is just perfect and together with the haunting narration delivers a series that is more than just the words and the images. Esther Bredenkamp , Toronto
