Longlegs in an overhyped mess of a movie.
If you’re looking for an A24 style of horror movie, you’ll unfortunately be disappointed with what’s on offer here. I wouldn’t call this a scary movie, and the suspense/thriller aspects are let down by grating pacing and some bizarre choices in terms of story and presentation.
What initially seem like interesting scenes of past events in which the frame in letterboxed, become increasingly weighted towards exposition dumps for the audience, culminating in a scene towards the end with the main character dryly giving a voice over strips any remaining mystery the film has left in an attempt to offer some form of an explanation or meaning to the previous hour and 15 minutes.
The ending also didn’t leave me satisfied, story was so convoluted by the third act it felt like the stakes were non existent. Coupled with a lack of connection or interest in the main players of the plot, this made for a movie that felt longer than it really was, and that I won’t be watching again.
