I guess second time around is never going to be as good as the first. Unfortunately, with the exception of Denzel, Glad II suffers from a much weaker cast and a storyline that fails to ignite the imagination. It tries to compensate with an abundance of blood, gore and a short sighted rhino. The only compensation was an occasional throw-back glimpse of Maximus, who even in death, made Gladiator I so memorable.
