The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia and how destiny has linked him to Yennifer and Ciri in a world of liars, thieves, monsters, dangerous men (and women) and magic. I found the structure of the storytelling to be The Witcher's biggest fault. If you are a Witcher virgin who doesn't know the story but tuned in to watch a great series, the time-hopping probably confused the heck out of you. Each character's story jumped back and forth between past and present and you aren't given a single clue when it happens. One moment you're in Geralt's present and ten minutes later you find out that we moved into his past five minutes earlier. It's incredibly messy and hard to keep up with. It took seeing a dead character suddenly alive to catch some of the time jumps back into the past. Henry Cavill is absolute perfection as Geralt. I can't say enough good things about his performance other than he nailed it. The character I found the most intolerable was Yennifer. The powerful sorceress was portrayed as nothing more than a whining woman who spent most of the series pouting about not being powerful enough. Ciri had the most impressive evolution. By the end of the season, she had come to terms with the world's cruelties that she had once been so sheltered from and she seemed ready to tackle it a bit braver. Geralt doesn't believe in destiny but suddenly does in the last ten minutes of the last episode. It is only then that he and Ciri finally come face to face. Overall, I think this is a really good setup for a better season 2 because now everyone's times have finally caught up to the present. Season 2 should be better structured now and I think it's something to look forward to. 4.5 out of 5.
