I couldn’t finish this book due to the over-the-top descriptions and VERY flowery language. No one in Mobile, AL talks as formally as these people do. It felt like I was attempting to read something written by Jane Austin or an author like that. I felt the story could’ve had potential as the plot sounded good but I just couldn’t get away from the way the language sounded.
A brief excerpt -
With an intrigued quirk of his eyebrow, Gary regarded his wife intently. As he departed for work earlier that day, a foreboding premonition had nestled within his consciousness, apprehensive of the challenges Sharon might encounter while navigating the labyrinthine corridors of Shantel's reticence. Yet, what unfolded before his eyes surpassed his wildest expectations, an unforeseen marvel that defied the bounds of his imagination.
“Please, enlighten me," he implored, his voice a delicate tapestry of curiosity and anticipation.
"Gary, I hesitate to proclaim that I've shattered the impenetrable barrier she enveloped herself in, for it remains a work in progress, a delicate dance of trust. But what transpired today, it was a glimmer of hope, a nascent ray of light," Sharon began, her voice a tender whisper, laden with profound emotion. "When I informed her that new clothes were essential for the upcoming school year, she was taken aback, her eyes betraying a flicker of disbelief. She confided that she possesses no recollection of ever attending school before, a testament to the profound scars etched upon her soul by her tumultuous past. No wonder she has been hesitant to unfurl the tendrils of her heart within our embrace."
