Theres so many mixed reviews regarding the execution of this series. My opinion is that 'Glamorous' is a show that has clarity on what it wanted to be, and did it well. It is funny, lighthearted, queer, and channels Marco's naivety and easy-goingness well. You'll note that the videographers/editors have intentionally used soft-blurs (bokeh effect) on all lights throughout the scenes - this makes the set look like its dazzling and sparkling, and I think this adds to the whimsical "dreaminess" of the plot. This is especially important to note, its set in corporate America and filmed in the same building as 'Suits', yet the scriptwriting, set design, costumes, and actors subtle yet effective overacting allows the viewer to believe they're in a place that can transcend business, and just be "glamorous". I also like that this show broadcasts the different personas you come across in the LGBTQ+ community, rather than having one or two tokenistic LGBTQ+ characters like many other mainstream streaming platform shows. The show also UNDERSTANDS the queer-perspective - special shout out to the shaming of corporate rainbow-washing!!! And lastly, while many have criticised Kim Catrell for "under acting" or being underwhelming, I think she totally understood the assignment for her character - Madyln Adison. Just think, Madylin is a character who is an ex-supermodel, feel's insecure about her age, carries romantic rejection with her, is losing her only remaining success legacy (her beauty empire), doesn't socialise with any friends, feels understood only by her limo driver, and often escapes to seek security in her home. Its safe to say she feels like a failure, imposter, and/or struggles with self worth - and Kim Cattrell portrays this well and subtly. The only critique I will make on this, is that there could have been more character development and screen time for Cattrell as understanding her character is more of slow-burn process, while the rest of the plot and characters are quite fast paced and the mis-match between this is felt. Nonetheless, I am overall very impressed with this show and hope that it gets green-lighted for Season 2 and more.
