Wanted to give it a four star but the cons outweigh the pros so much that it kind of gave me the idea that a 3-star is a better rating.
PRO's:
The Millenium is a good looking ship imo. It looks better than the Minerva. But I still like the Minerva way mire as she was captained by Gladys Talia.
Good to see units that are rather new to the series but for long time Gundam fans, they're familiar with lots of them.
The Gundam battles were very entertaining. All of them were exhilirating and chaotic... Something that would rrally occur if Mobile Suits were real and MS battles are a thing.
The story is simple to grasp. Three factions fighting one another with one being just somewhat putting their nose on other people's business as always.
CON's:
The villains. I don't get it. They are so overpowered and yet underpowered. Overpowered as they have the abilities of virtually every type of humans in the Gundam lore. The only thing they didn't include was how they can transform into an animal and grow huge after being defeated...
The main characters. So basically of all, only Athrun's character (and Meyrin's) evolved. The rest were the same old character that never changed or had no growth since the first Gundam SEED. Makes you think that only Athrun deserves to be the main character and the background character had more growth than the main ones. Also, what's with the addiciton for validation by virtually every character minus Athrun, Cagalli and Meyrin? It felt like I watched a Gundam anime with plots from School Days, Shuffle and Nanoha combined...
The mecha. Yes, the battle was great but that's it. Somehow it felt like at first, the writers had an idea of what to do with the mechas but later on decided it is time to go home and rushed things out and instead, gave us old units that contradict the very concept of the villain's units. I mean they knew the enemy had certain capabilities and instead of making new units, they just used the old ones that uses the tech that the enemy units have resistance to.
The fanservice. Why? Why?! I love Gundam and the concept of war but why add lewd stuff and things that made this Gundam movie short of soft porn. A soft porn with a mix of romcom where they go and fight with robots, beam cannons and Professor X' mutant abilities...
EDIT: Forgot one more con...
What's with the character design? I mean did the girls have lip surgery or what?
TAKE AWAYS:
I will surely rewatch this to see if I missed something and to relive the battles alone.
If you plan to watch this, ditch the old Gundam SEED series you watch and consider this a new Gundam anime that bears the title "GUNDAM SEED"...
