In any war, people look weary, drained, scared and don’t bother to dress well or look good. Why did Rita and all the female workers who build bombs wear lipstick and were put together so well? It wasn’t until the last scene that Rita wasn’t wearing that bright red lipstick and her hair started to look unmanaged. She’s a distraught mother who puts her son on train and doesn’t know when and if she’ll see him again; wear was her anguish? Makeup, hair, and costume did not support Saoirse Ronan. I am a great of fan Ronan, but frankly she is a disappointment. The director failed her. Elliot Heffernan was extraordinary as George; his work is authentic; he never missed a beat! I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of him; such a talented boy! Bravo!
