This movie is terrible because it completely changes the main character's personality. The essence of Anne is quiet strength. So many of us carry quiet hurts in our hearts that time did not heal, but with which we must live and work anyways. Anne allowed hers to transform her into a person with hidden strength that can't be broken. She is the essence of Emily Dickenson's little bird in a storm, that cannot be beaten down and who provides shelter to others. She is so many good women and men whose internal depths cannot be fathomed without careful delving.
The way they depicted her cheapened all of that. As many have said the message conveyed was that the Anne's of the world are not good enough for film, all interesting women must be Emma. Well done Hollywood. It's an okay movie in its own right. Had it been titled something else and had the courage to stand on its own rather than trying to make an easy buck off of Austen's name I might have liked it better. But the cowardice of the film makers robs it of even those feathers.
