Despite many preposterous elements—Anglo-Irish aristocrats did not behave like that, for one thing—the acting is superb and much of the writing is brilliant. They make an effort to deal with the horrors of British rule, the degradation of the famine, the anti-catholic laws, and the violent Irish response. Worth watching and pondering.
