In terms of a Marvel movie, I would agree that it had some funky spots, BUT it introduces some extremely important things in terms of the larger MCU and also gives Captain Marvel more character depth. She went from a character I didn't care for and honestly, didn't like, to a character I appreciate. It's worth a watch, and will probably end up costing you down the road if you don't.
