Good film. Well cast. Jason Ritter was, perhaps, the most refreshing actor of the bunch, who exuded such pathos. Aubrey Plaza, however, carried the film and everyone else kinda fell into place. Its film predecessors left large shoes to fill and even though the feet on this film were small, it was nonetheless cozy to watch.

Being a tennis player, I’ve given up on having high expectations for a good tennis movie. BUT, with a solid cast and brilliant director, I got my hopes up. It was pretty bad. It spilled over into the realm of absurdity. The climax was painful and film technique over-indulgent. It is a terrible script that should have never had been given the green light. The soundtrack was so distracting it made me nauseous. Very Euro-centric/80s retro vibe/b-movie kinda mess. I want my $20 back.

Great cast, terrible adaptation. I waited and waited like someone in a hospital waiting room wanting answers but never getting any. Such squandering of talent. Only one good line in the entire film: “...if you get there in time tell her I said hello.” Too bad it wasn’t a reference to the fate of the film itself.
