Having only played for roughly six hours, I can say that it's a fun game... not perfect. I absolutely loved DA:I and was very disappointed that we aren't seeing Cassandra or Liliana, who are mainstays of Dragon Age IMO.
I was on the fence about buying it, but when I saw Asmongold play it and say it's better than what people are saying, better than he expected, and gave it a 6-7 rating, I thought I'd give it a shot myself instead of listening to other YT streamers who have an agenda- hint- they make MONEY off of generating hate and drama. So while some people say you cannot trust reviews of gaming journalists, you also cannot trust reviews or especially 'opinions' of YT streamers who make money based on how much drama and hate they can generate. Like attracts like... keep that in mind.
As for the game itself... the combat is fun, but different from other Dragon Age games. The dialogue is sanitized and 'safe', but I'm still having fun with the sarcasm option all the time. The appearance of the world does feel a bit 'cartoonish' IMO, but not horrible, just different from what I'm used to. I think dumbing down the combat to only three skills was a bad move- but it probably made balancing a lot easier for them.
Overall, I think it's a 3.5-4 stars... definitely not a '5'. Most people are giving it a five to try and offset the disingenuous '1' star reviews. Honestly, if you want a TRUE view of the game, check out Steam reviews and filter by number of hours played. Here, anyone can create a review, so it's clear the game is being review bombed by haters, with most of them having not even played it- just formed their opinion based off YT streamers- who again- make money off of how much hate and drama they can generate, not based off actual game performance itself.
It's not perfect, it's quite a bit detached from DA:I, but like many others have said, EVERY Dragon Age game has been somewhat different from the previous- and having been over 10 years- the only two things guaranteed in life are death... and CHANGE.
