Started watching late night television shows as a child. Fortunately, I saw the last year of Johnny Carson. As Carson was leaving, I watched the rise of Arsenal Hall, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, In Living Color, SNL, Beverley Hills 90210.
In my 90s adolescent years, Kimmel's The Man Show was enjoyable. Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel with big breasted young women jumping on trampolines. Very impressionable , misogynistic but nobody worried about offending others. Politics, never discussed. Show was 5 stars.
When Kimmel went to late night on ABC in 2003 I followed. I tuned in most nights weekly. After 12 years, I stopped watching Kimmel Show. This was right around when Kimmel peaked his viewership. 7.05 million nightly viewers watched the show in 2014 and compared to today, he had 10x the 18-49 key demo. Now Kimmel can barely top 100k of those under 50 to watch a show.
There's over 10,000 social media-YouTube influencers averaging 100k+ in key demo daily viewers. Vast majority of these influencers, exception Mr Beast, make a fraction of what Kimmel gets paid annually. His primary feeble audience, always vote blue no matter who, baby boomers, a loyal following, but not what advertisers want. His show was profitable 10 years ago. Now a huge loser in the $10s of millions. What changed? Politics of course.
In 2015, as Trump ran for President, Jimmy Kimmel's Trump derangement illness was early and apparent. ABC should have pulled the plug on Kimmel Show a decade ago. He refused to cut down on the nightly 5 min. opening anti-Trump, anti-Republican monologs, when asked by shows executives. The show was a bashing on half the country who vote the other side. When asked to bring on someone who thinks differently than left of center, he'd threaten to quit. Kimmel was politically bigoted.
I stopped watching all public airways late night television shows. The late night shows are terrible. Seth Myers, Steven Cobaire, all the same storyline, 'we hate Trump, and Republicans'. Has anyone showed a demographic chart to any of these late night show host? There's an exponentially rising conservative voting base males 35 and under! Kids are counter culturing the radicalization of hyper sexualization, guess my hourly fluid genders game, what's your pronouns?, I think my 4 year old kid is trans, math is racism, race sensitivity training, < liberal indoctrinated education. AND the youth is turning to church + conservatism 7x faster then LGBTQQIP2SA+ streamlined progressive Trans youth FOMO movement. So it's more likely country goes further Red than Blue. It's the first time since 1950s church's saw a rise in ages 30 and under go to church, with a much bigger rise in minors. Liberal Agnostic/Athiest parents are dropping their future Republican generation Alpha children off to church. Times are a changing.
I'm hopeful public broadcasters can forge a way back to politically unbiased late night television. Hire a comedian like Ricky Gervais to do a late night show. He'd have no shame throwing right and left jabs at all Political sides in US-UK, poke fun at Hollywood and Borehamwood. Please ABC 🙏 bring in Ricky Gervais. I'd watch his show every night or tune-in YouTube clips when I miss the show.
By the way, what's with all the Kimmel crying? Definitely a first in front of a late night TV audience. Crying 😢 because your team didn't win the election. I guess thats the punchline. Jimmy Kimmel your not a Funnyman anymore. Retire the show.
