I had the highest of hopes! Being an African American woman witnessing the reenactment of the Queen of Soul, however, I don't follow trends or popular votes. The script was untied, meaning that the selected memories were not strung together in harmony. I understand that there was a lifetime of Aretha's life limited to a couple of hours, but where the movies, Ray and Get On Up gets right, Respect fails. I love the actors and singers but the acting was strangely forced and I found myself wishing for the end. It missed the mark and I don't care how many people say that this movie was great, it wasn't.
