Brilliant! Elements of Mike Bubbins’ literally resurrected Seventies PE teacher Tony Mammoth will seem so familiar to anyone who went to a State high school in that decade. A porn-star moustache, a pleather jacket, and above all, the unconscious sexism… If you ever wondered how some of your teachers back then would have coped today, here’s the answer brought to life. The results of Mammoth instantly dealing with fifty years of huge cultural change are fairly predictable, but they are also genuinely funny. Siân “Car Share” Gibson is as sharp in her role as Mel, the mother-bear parent of a pupil, as you would expect. It was written for her, and it shows. The titles are a joy, a genuine Mike Post theme tune, with Seventies hits perfectly threaded through the soundtrack. Packed with laugh-out-loud moments, and amazing attention to detail. Nostalgia geeks will love it. Well done Mike Bubbins and BBC Wales. More please.
