Very compelling and touching---Maggie Smith and her ever changing face, those enormous eyes in close up create sympathy in the watcher. Those shots alone almost tell the story of a life. I am still puzzling through the power the man in the wine cellar had over her young self. Her future was hijacked by his grotesque tales of the power infrastructure she was up against. It was a heartbreaking study of the erosion a young woman's ambitions, or the ambitions of anyone not born 'to the manor'.
