Had to share my hurt locker analysis since I think I was just able to put words to it. The movie was disjointed, which really took away from the experience. While the sniper scene was a little cheesy, in general the movie was shot well and had intriguing scenes. The issue though, is that the movie was not better than the sum of its parts, and this dynamic made the movie in fact less than the sum of its parts. The awkward part about the movie too, is that the scenes weren't just unrelated in theme, they were unrelated in scope. Some were about war in general. But many were also specifically about individuals, and not necessarily even the way war as a theme impacts them. This dynamic was very jarring for me and I didn't know if my focus was better spent on Jeremy / Anthony etc, or on the impacts of war. This neutered any narratives or points that the film was trying to make as it lacked focus.
Glad I watched it, but definitely scratching my head about many of the decisions made when putting together the movie.
