Clark Kent’s comments about the language are interesting. At first I thought they were just quibbling but then realised that Italian as a national language was still being invented in Lidia’s day. Then I went looking for
Piedmontese—what a shock. This isn’t a different dialect it’s clearly a completely different language not mutually intelligible with Italian. The language situation in Turin in this period must’ve been complicated. Not sure it could be duplicated today.
