Update: having played a bit more and allowed myself to take my time and not be hurried along by the constant nagging has given me a much more positive view of the game. I'm uprating from 2/5 to a tentative 4/5 so we'll see how it goes. I think the first impressions weren't great, with fixed first-person view, last gen (or two) graphics and mouse lag, plus being thrown in at the deep end. I'll see how I feel once I'm a bit further in. I don't see it becoming a 5/5 for at least the reasons given but have reconsidered that 2/5 as much too harsh.

Turgid, sluggish, awkward; tries to be too many things at once and isn't really that great at any of them. I'm not sure what happened to the graphics, they look actually pretty tired and dated. I think for me, the worst thing is I wanted to play an RPG, not a shooter, so that may have coloured my opinion somewhat.
I'll probably persist with it but after a couple of hours which just resulted in me getting pwned in a clumsy shoot-out even on easy I'm not really feeling pulled back. But y'know, this wouldn't be the first game where first impressions have been underwhelming but which I've subsequently really got into, so I should keep an open mind.
