Hello!
I am a twelve-year-old girl obsessed with writing, reading, and other literary activities. Living in the modern world, I was exposed to this book on many platforms advertising it. As a fan of many dystopian novels, I selected this story to read. My first complaint is the writing style. I'm still a child, and yet my writing is better than the five-word sentences that this story is composed of. My second complaint is that this story is built only for the romance, which was sparse and poorly written. Maxon---the love interest---was the only decent character, apart from dating several girls simultaneously. This book contains a plethora of misogynist views, without a strong female character to combat the prejudice. Unless you consider a girl who---can you believe it--- likes to wear PANTS! This mere fact is only the tip of the iceberg on one of the most hated tropes---the "I'm not like other girls" trope. And yet ~ half of the book is just discussing makeup and dresses.
Thanks for suffering through my little rant. As a reader, I was disappointed. If you were searching for a decent teen dystopian read, try The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, or The Arc of a Scythe trilogy by Neal Shusterman. These were just some of my favorites, along with Lockwood & Co by Jonathon Stroud, and Bartitmaeus, also by Jonathon Stroud. : )
