Beyond the Gates is a mixed bag, but one that’s worth acknowledging. What truly sets it apart is how phenomenal it is to see a soap opera that’s phenomenally all-Black—a refreshing and powerful display of representation that’s long overdue in the genre.
The storyline, while engaging enough to keep you watching, does lean into the far-fetched at times. And though the acting could use a bit more refinement in places, there’s real potential in the cast and creative direction. It’s not the strongest soap out there, but its ambition and cultural significance give it a solid place in today’s television landscape.
Wish I could've auditioned for a role!! 😉
