Don't usually do reviews but this..... this pains me. I'm a veteran OW1 player, and OW2 is absolutely a downgrade.
I understand that when you make a game free to play you'll need some in-game monetization. However, the extent that OW2 has gone to is crazy. The Premium Battle Pass costs about $10 each season, and most of the rewards are mediocre. If you don't get the PBP well, then enjoy grinding for hours for basically nothing. The skins in the shop are about $20, which is absolutely ridiculous. Especially when you see the same skin in the shop, just recolored, and it's still $20. Heroes being in the BP, and then available to buy in the shop a season later is a slap in the face, especially since some heroes like Kiriko are so powerful in the current meta.
The matchmaking is a joke. I have only played a handful of matches where it was an actually fair fight. The rest of the time either my team or the enemy team has players 2-3 ranks higher than everyone else and it's a steamroll. Now, this would've been understandable if it was just in Quick Play, but this also happens in Competitive.
Lastly, the heroes. So many characters have been ridiculously over powered since launch, and the developers have done nothing to balance them. Roadhog can hook you basically from across the map, reel you in, and one shot you. If your team manages to get him low health, he pops his healing ability and is back up to almost full. Sojourn's movement is insane, she can slow people down making them easier to shoot, and her railgun can insta-kill almost anyone when fully charged. The developers said they balanced here with the latest patch, but actually they just made her even more insane. Kiriko isn't as bad as the other two, but her survivability due to wall climbing and teleporting matched with her ult-cancelling suzu makes her oppressive. I've rarely seen a match where all three characters haven't been played.
The only thing keeping me playing is the arcade mode and the PVE/story modes that are in development, but who knows when that'll ever be released.
