First off, for anyone giving this game negative reviews because of “social justice issues” and/or being too “Politically Correct”, I’m sure these are the same people that feel like racism doesn’t exist and athletes/celebrities should stay in their lane. I applaud Insomniac Games and Sony for using their platform to “include” issues and groups of people into video games that for the most part, have been non-existent or forgettable characters. Miles Morales does an amazing job with introducing characters and issues that are relevant to the times and that is refreshing to see. As a person of color and a serious gamer for almost 30 years, I loved the fact that there was finally a video game that I could not only relate to, but also could see someone that looks like me on the screen. The reactions that I’m seeing from younger generations is absolutely amazing - especially in black and brown communities. Well done Insomniac/Sony.
While the story is a bit short and I wished it was a longer game, I enjoyed every bit of it. It’s visually stunning, combat is fun, and the story is engaging. The side missions can be a bit repetitive, but they aren’t too time consuming and the fact you can fast travel to areas with super fast load times (PS5), you’ll complete them in no time.
My hopes for the next installment is the option for co-op where you can play with Peter or Miles. That would most definitely take this to the next level.
