Challenger Deep empathizes with those struggling with mental illness in a way that is touching and real. It is evident that the book is crafted with a purpose to truly understand, not stigmatize, Caden’s journey. It may be a more challenging read for Neal Shusterman’s typical Y/A audience because of how we are taken through every bit of Caden’s mind, but for such a heavy subject matter I appreciated that the book made me think. The purposeful changes between first and second person perspectives were particularly provoking - overall a fantastic read.
