I feel like people want this movie to be what it’s not. They say they don’t understand the hurt the older kids and what are going through and why they take it to extremes but the movie literally says it clearly. People want to know who they are, not to mention the fact that Marvin/Carl had the memories of his mother, going to his aunts house and never seeing her again. The aunt also gave them away not to long after not to mention him being able to see how violent his father was. Things that you have to connect to get some of a back story. Movies that you have to pay attention to get the full stories are always hated on but I hope it gets the praise it deserves from those who at least like to dig deep into the meanings behind movies. The scenes and the angles their shot in are all tense and paint the picture of nevé in a box from the school hallways to the scenes in the bathrooms. But on to my review. This movie really made me think. It was so heavy at parts that I had to keep pausing to yell at what was happening before watching and repeating ever 60 seconds. Had to watch it again the next day to catch all of the symbolism and connect it with what happened at the ending. And the ending is one for the books. I saw it coming but held my tongue to the point where it made nothing but natural while still being more than shocking. Social class and family trauma rain heavy in this film and all the way through till you’re left with the question of why? If you have felt anything like the pain this movie portrays, you know very well that there is no real why. And the ending solidly lets that be know.
