I enjoyed the movie.I thought it was intriguing and exciting.I was most of the time on the edge of my seat, shocked. The mc was decent and I liked the setting aswell. The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because I am not satisfied with a couple of things.
The antagonist was not fleshed out enough. He so is flat compared to Sara,we don’t get much of his backstory and/or clear motives.(The family trope is much to vague and boring imo.I think it would have done him justice if we had a pov from him or something similar.)
I think the other girl that needed to go to the US to her mum or something, was unnecessary. She could’ve also had more background(needed more of the drive, thought that was interesting) or just taken out of the movie entirely.
I wanted more of Sara’s past with the war, ptsd and her relationship with her son.I was so unhappy with that ending,I wanted Josh to meet his dad’s family. The saferoom scene was underwhelming. You had me with that scene where they are in the guards office,Sara calling the person that send her the video. After that was downhill.
My biggest problem is that the world building in the start and near middle was so good, wanted more about the sabotage of the Afghanistan war!I wanted more about Saras mental problems,so we could grow more empathy for her.
There is so much more I want to say but I’ll leave it at that.
It wasn’t the best movie but it wasn’t terrible. There was alot of potential and it wasn’t used correctly but it was decent and I would binge it again.
