The movie has aged well since it's release. In watching the Directors Cut recently, by comparison to other Trek movies, what struck me most was that it has much more of an "epic" feel. Goldsmith's score only added to it, although Horner did a superb job also. The cast, both the regulars and the additions, gave subdued good performances. The only thing missing was a little more Trek humor...but given the subject matter, understandable.
