I find any human trafficking story a tragedy. Because what if it was you, or your mother or your daughter? What if it was your son, or your father etc?
Firstly i would like to say, that I am happy that, this movie had a happy ending for the main character who was trafficked etc.
I watched this movie entitled 'Sold' on Amazon Prime. After texting that number at the end of the movie, I was curious as to where I could leave a comment. I thought about it. I just found this message board to post comments, and i thought it was important to just write some of my thoughts down about the controversial content in this film.
The main character escaped to freedom in the end of the movie. And there were 2 raids on the house she was living in, by the police because of her voice and courage even while she was captured.
She managed to gain the attention of a white lady who was visiting India, this lady was dressed in a Nun outfit, and even though she was told not to carry a camera in that area, she still did and managed to take a picture of this Nepali girl in distress, on what seemed to be the 2nd floor window of a building or house.
Eventually, as the movie ends, the first raid by the Police was unsuccessful. Escape for the rest of the girls in the house was successful, But only after 2 Police raids on that house, because they managed to hide the girls the first time. And due to a deliberate power outage, the brothel was out of business for the first night of the raid and as such the gate was locked when the police arrived.
But thankfully the second police raid was successful, and those other girls became free.
At the end of the film people were asked to text SOLD to a small digit number. I did that. But I realized there was no room for comments.
I think human trafficking is wrong. And I can't imagine what torment of being in a situation like that. Or what it would cause the victim. But I hope that victims of this crime, that if they lost their 'HUMANITY,' that they would be able to get there 'humanity' back. As well as freedom and their life etc.
One part in the film that I did not like is the idea that these white Americans would free these girls only if they would be allowed to take an organ from them like a 'lung' etc.
I would not want to trade 1 evil for another evil. But all in the course of becoming free, what choice did these girls have?
I DO NOT THINK THAT ULTIMATUM SHOULD BE IN THE FILM.That ultimatum also seems inhumane.
The protagonist in the film became free in the end. And a little boy, a child of one of the other prostitutes manage to escape to the safe haven that was established for victims of human trafficking in that part of India, because of this girls bravery and a business card left a the the brothel by a white man from the organization, that went to the brothel on a visit to talk to this young girl before the police raid. I do not remeber the name of the Safe haven established for human trafficking in this film. But it is not without mention.
SO it seems that even though viewers are right to detest human trafficking, it's like viewers are also wrong because it is insisted that there is a cost for freedom by these Americans etc, because the victims might or would have to give up an organ like a lung....that's Sad!
I wish that in this film that it was not insisted that Freedom should come at such a cost. Freedom should be freedom to live and everything good that comes with it.
That's what I think. I hope I didn't leave anything out.
Respectfully,
Sharde
