I don’t usually plan on leaving reviews until at least the second episode for this reason that will be made clear by this review.
As with others, I felt a little let down by the initial episode, however, I knew well enough that this would be misleading. Similarly, the first episode of Mando felt subpar to me. However, the second episode of both series prove that the first episode is absolutely needed. Again, while the first episode was by no means my favorite (nor do I expect it to be), it lays the foundation that the rest of the series requires to not feel rushed in later episodes.
I read some complaints about fight choreography, and I absolutely agree with the consensus on episode 1, it did feel a little sloppy (while it may not have been intentional, I believe this aided the second episode, more on that later). But episode 2 was INCREDIBLE. The choreo was natural and Boba felt like he returned to his former glory. The subpar comparison of the choreo in episode one helped us see a transition in Fett from a damaged shell of what he once was into a whole version of himself. After all, the Sarlacc did do a number on him.
Is it as good as Mando? That’s still up for debate as we see the series unfold, but episode two felt very much like the quality we expect from a Disney+ Star Wars show.
I will likely return to post further reviews to adapt this review. If I could give 4.5 stars I would, but I believe in the current state, it deserves more than 4 stars.
