There is no mystery or feeling of isolation in this movie like the 1980's the thing. The Thing will also just reveal itself to everyone for no reason..... and considering it's supposed to be a Norwegian base it's got plenty of Americans in it. Not to mention the effects look cheap, they opted for cgi over practical effects. Now here comes the spoiler, the American female of the film mysteriously survives, how? We don't see a female survivor in the 1980's the thing so why have her survive? Then because the 1980's movie starts off with the Norwegian's chasing the dog in a chopper they randomly have a Norwegian all by himself turn up in a chopper but it's not even explained who he is he just turns up within the last 2 minutes of the movie. If it was a standalone movie it'd probably get a 3. Because it tries and fails so badly at being a prequel it gets a 2.
