Season 2 of Diary of a Future President made me fall in love with this show exponentially. Last season (the 1st) seemed so impersonal to me. So much so that I forgot about the show and did not seek out to watch season 2. But, as characters, specifically, Bobby explored his sexuality, I saw the family connect, which sparked something in me. This family became the family I wish my family had and wish to have. Of course, there are circling themes, as shown by Gabriele's fear of her children growing up. Bobby's use of the repetitive word "chill" is extremely accurate.
I disagree with people saying that Bobby's character is controversial. People can not open their minds to the idea of a family that isn't "typical." He quickly became my favorite character, and sometimes I wish we knew his thoughts instead of Elena's. The way he came out in this show is also atypical. Usually, we see them gathering their courage, trying to call the whole family together. I like how he did it his way with different people, and it was interesting to see the different reactions.
As for Elena, her problems love to take up the show's focus. It makes sense she is what the title stands for, but sometimes her issues seem annoying. However, I acknowledge the lessons she learns because everyone learns them at some points. People say that Disney is pushing mature themes onto Elena and, therefore her audience like kissing. I do agree with this assertion to an extent, but it is relevant in that grade. Not that prevalent, but still. However, puberty is prevalent, and boys should learn about these topics as well. Parents like these are the reason boys seem so disgusted when they see feminine products. They do give an important lesson at the end of the kissing episode, though, like waiting for that right person is important. Also, this show is not for little kids at all. I'm an older teen, and I enjoyed it, so there's definitely a higher audience that can be targeted.
I don't usually do reviews, but I had to give a positive review to even out the negative ones. I need season 3, and I wish people would think more progressive as Disney is pushing towards so we can have deeper conversations.
