When Joaquin Phoenix is on his game, there are none better. If he's not up for an Oscar then the world isn't right. Some have said the writing wasn't that great...I disagree and the writing allowed him to shine. Not a family movie as it is very dark, but he makes you want for more and he delivers every scene. On a sad note, it's a shame he had to lose so much weight to play the role and he was downright freaky looking at times.But, that may have been part of why he was so effective and believable. One critic post I read said the movie was "too predictable." Well duh...it's a well known DC comics story that introduces the Wayne's and the motivation that helped drive a young boy to become The Batman.
