one of the best books ive ever read.Burrough takes the real FBI files from that era and together with minute detail tells the fascinating stories of Dillinger,Bonnie and Clyde,Baby Face Nelson, the Baker gang and others and interweaves their stories into a page turner. We learn about the start and rise of the FBI and megalomaniac J.Edgar Hoover and his dedicated detectives like Melvin Puris. It is a long book but Burroughs is such a talented writer that I was totally engrossed and couldn't put this book down for long. There is a good selection of photographs which I kept referring to as I read these stories. This is better than James Ellroy or Chandler or Leonard....this is the real 30s crime era story told by a very gifted writer.Highly recommended.
