I really wanted to like this film, unfortunately it suffered from a theme that's way too commonplace nowadays. It was nothing like its trailers. The trailers made this film look like a dark and creepy take on the "am I losing my mind" theme, while also upping the stakes by having the characters be superpowered mutants. What it turned out to be was an extremely one dimensional teen drama. The acting was decent, the story was passable. Where I kept falling out of the universe was the completely out of sync powers and logic. The biggest being a mutant who can become fire, engulfs himself in flame, and the instead of using his fire as a weapon... repeatedly swings a church bench. I kept thinking, why? Why is any of this happening? It made me start thinking of the movie instead of being inside it. I really wanted to like this film, but it just didn't live up to its potential.
