Are all these reviewers smoking crack? This was one of the worst films I have ever seen. Maybe its the timing of the film- with all the fantastic, positive, monumental change we're seeing for women in society as a result of movements such as the #letherspeak campaign. Dont get me wrong- I'm all for the anti-sexual assault, anti-rape messages- and I love a good revenge film (ie Django- absolute classic). But my problem with this film is that it was incredibly predictable at every turn. All of the scenes were so corny. All of the acting performances were unremarkable. Not a single one of the characters was believable. Actually, maybe I did believe that Mclovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) was creepy for a few seconds.. so perhaps this was the best performance in the film. But I will never watch something with Bo Burnham in it again. Also- Carey Mulligan is usually a decent actor.. I've enjoyed other stuff she has been in, but this is such a regrettable performance for her. All the people demanding academy awards for Carey for this performance should get academy awards for acting like this film is any good. Don't even get me started on the scenes of Cassie at her job in the cafe...... what are we watching here? Friends? The only thing missing was the laughter of a pre recorded "live" studio audience and Joey strutting up to the counter with a ".....How you doin'?". Probably a bit harsh on Friends, being much more entertaining than this film. All of the jokes and the parts that were supposed to be funny were obvious, and fell so uncomfortably short. Judging by the reviews, I would expect this film to, at the very least, be engaging and entertaining ... But I simply couldn't wait for it to finish. The only reason I stayed for its entirety was because I paid 20 bucks for the ticket. I was also thoroughly enjoying my popcorn and choctop, though that would've been great in the comfort of my lounge room. Cinema popcorn is pretty tight though, am I right? I digress: I also didn't want to drag my friends out, two females and two males, in case they were somehow enjoying it.. As it turns out, though, they all hated it too.
15 minutes in and I couldn't wait for this film to finish. If I could give a half star rating on this google review- I wouldn't- i'd give zero.
My advice: don't see it. Do something more useful with your time. Watch your grass grow. Tattoo your eyeballs. But don't see this film. 2 hours of my life that I will never get back.
