This by far is one of the best books I have read in 2025. A coming of age story across four generations and how each character is incubated and brought to life with care and insightful depth of affection. This narrative is juxtaposed apropos the Emergency. The manner in which the author highlights the subtle nuances of her key family members and the pivotal roles they played in each other’s lives is at times joyous and heartbreaking. What I also appreciate is that nowhere is the Author whose parents were Shia Muslim, whose grandmother was a Christian and whose great grandfather was a Rajput is critical of any faith or their practice. It is a great book and required reading for anyone who works in social development and cares deeply about this culturally diverse land we call home.
