I had very little respect for mimes before I saw this movie. Eisenberg's complete inability to mime anything convincingly showed me that miming is in fact a skillful art. The movie is just obvious from start to finish. The plot is full of very convenient and inexplicable coincidences all lazily employed to further the plot at any cost.
The lack of depth must be somewhat insulting to anyone who went through the nightmares so poorly represented. Eisenberg is not cut out for this type of drama. He doesn't ever really seem truly engaged. Emotions are not his strong suit. Predictable cliche after predictable cliche. I wouldn't have been hard to impress. I am fascinated by this part of history and usually enjoy any treatment of it. This was a waste of a chance to tell an important story.
