If you want something to pull you out of the pit of despair that is coronavirus quarantining, DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW. Absolutely wretched writing on the 7th episode. Quite frankly, every other episode could have been the best collective piece of media ever produced and I would still give this show one star. And I mean this quite literally. I nearly gagged hearing the grotesque flow of the 'gen Z lingo' coming from the mouths of actors, who were probably either drugged or held at gunpoint. The only stereotype Netflix managed to get right was that most men who exist in the realm of gaming discords, even seemingly nice ones, are valiant racists. Otherwise, the characters were so cardboard that if you asked me to watch this episode in 3D I would've wondered how that was even possible. Sure, the reference to vine was recognizable, although our poor egirl made no effort in making it funny other than shoving her face in a massive avocado. Hilarious! Seems like the stuff me and my friends would've found funny before sliced bread! I also loved our young protagonist's use of Bitmojis in her conversation with her love interest ( SPOILER ALERT: he's the one who turns out to be a racist) because it made me feel like I was talking to my nice, 30 year old high school counselor. I enjoyed the dynamic between our protagonist (a young east asian girl) and her love interest (a literal sinophobe) but I found it unrealistic that she would've only discovered it after following his private account on insta. (HINT WHITE MOMS) If you're worried your teen boy is secretly an online racist, check his discord account first. The show ties it all up with a reference to the BLM protests following the death of George Floyd that honestly seemed forced and out of touch. All in all, this episode was horrible, just horrible. Hillary, I loved Orange is the New Black, but you have taken a fall that you may never recover from. My final word- I'm disappointed. Hope you have a great "quar"!!
