This was really more like a 4 star movie. It was good. I would definitely watch another. I know many are upset about JD but, opinions about that choice aside - Mads is a better grindewald imo. I’m giving my review 5 stars because there seems to be a lot of 1 star spam due to political beliefs. Whether that’s homophobia or anger at JK for her radfeminism. This movie was 2.5 hrs long and didn’t feel like it at all. It wasn’t groundbreaking, I do think it was likely improperly named, but it was thoroughly entertaining & I love the Wizarding World so I’m happy to be transported there. Would love the next FB movie to focus again more on the Fbs - that’s really where they shine!

This documentary was really insightful. In response to another reviewer who said this; “Of course, it'll look like more people of color per 100,000 population are incarcerated - but it should show the number of incarcerated in relation to the number who committed crimes” Yes, I agree! We should show the number of those incarcerated vs. the number of those who committed crimes. Did you know that the average American, knowingly or not, commits 3 arguable felonies a day? But, if no ones watching them, then no one sees, and they don’t get arrested. Just because they weren’t arrested doesn’t mean they didn’t do a crime. Black people don’t commit more crimes then white people, they’re just watched more closely &, when it comes to incarceration, serve significantly more time than a white person for the same crime.

Is it an amazing piece of cinema worthy of an Oscar? No Is it an extremely entertaining mystery with solid performances & pretty camera work? Yes It’s decent & bingeable - like chips & guac I hope they make a S2

This film was beautifully shot, the atmosphere was palpable, & the acting was more than decent. So why two stars? Because I in no way got what I came for. The trailer for this film was entirely misleading. Billing your infinitely slow indie drama as a action/horror movie is going to leave people very disappointed as they never get any pay off for hours of build up and will feel entirely bamboozled. This movie relies on film critics to translate as well as give it meaning substance that it doesn’t inherently have objectively.
