It was great to see that this was actually shot in Oakland. BUT, have the writers, director etc lived here or actually spent any time with people in my city? Oakland is a very specific place, and so are the people. The dialogue and characters were completely generic. Neither the language used nor the very particular way of seeing the world and events was believable for people in Oakland. And the police??? Totally unbelievable in how they were represented. And the journalists. Don't get me started. So much more to say here. I say to the writers, do your research. Oakland is an intensely political place. You cannot do a piece set here without representing that. Don't get me started on the High School scene.... It's a good story, but the way it was done was disappointing. It kept my attention and so I watched the whole thing. Which is why I am annoyed. I wanted it to be better.
