I was so excited when I learned this series was coming. Shantaram was one of the most engrossing books I've read in my life. I never wanted it to end. NOTHING about this series resembles the book except the title. I'm stunned. I could understand having to eliminate some sections of such a huge saga, but eliminate the entire storyline? This is a travesty. I can only conclude the people who like this pathetic, poorly written, perversion of a great book have never read the book. Do yourself a favor: turn this trash off and read the book. I would have thought Charlie Hunnam as the producer would have had the sensibility to treat this movie with the reverence owed to a great piece of literature. Good grief.

Cruise casting was absurd. so now they find a guy who looks the part, big enough and fights the part, but he's wooden. they must have cast this guy from a local gym, because acting is not in his repertoire. The writing is plebian and it lacks any personality. they managed to find two interesting character actors to put around him but nothing saves this disaster. Why Hollywood can't seem to find a way to present a great character is beyond me. This is pathetic.
