The book is plainly a fantasy of an unworkable alternative world. What particularly disturbed me was the author’s lack of understanding of human nature and basic economics.

Some interesting ideas but the book is let down by being so utterly one sided. Big data has brought massive benefits and cost efficiencies which she ignores. Rather than scrapping and/policing it the real answer seems to be that it simply needs to be done better.

This is surely one of the most overhyped books of all time. While it has the germs of an interesting theme it is shockingly poorly written, dull and slow moving. Don’t waste your time with this novel
