I've seen this film lots of times and each time I see it I am mesmerised by the outstanding script, direction and acting. Not a moment passes where you wish it was over. It's pacy dialogue, thought provoking discussions and the hot, steamy atmosphere grips the viewer. At no point do you feel that the verdict is a foregone conclusion.
With minimal set - the entire film is set in a jurors room - the film covers every aspect of human strengths and frailties. Each juror comes with their individual prejudices and particular background story. The way the script explores the nuances of language, doubt and emotion is remarkable. Though Henry Fonda and Lee J Cobb act with amazing conviction, the whole cast play their roles ro perfection.
This film is a must for those who like the cut and thrust of legal debate and the basic premise of democracy: that if there's an inkling of reasonable doubt when deciding the fate of a human life, the only answer is to acquit.
Brilliant!
