In this world full of hatred, socio economic scams, when our great directors are busy making sequele of films about extramarital affairs, and other glamourous actors are busy minting money from useless films about pomp and show, Onko Ki Kothin throws not a statement of nomenclature only, but a question at us. Three slum children lose their ongoing education when their suburban small school closes down after COVID.. Yet they dream and name themeslves after their dream careers as Doctor, Nurse, Engineer and vow to try to do something good in life. They try to gather thrown away furnitures, curtains, doors, table tops beds, electric equipments, clean them all up and save them in a half completed building, trying to turn that into a hospital so that so many people do not die again just as the COVID times due to lack of transport, treatment facilities.
Their families are poor, a father with a lung disease almost necessitating leaving a job of worker in a cement-brick business. Another's mother is a nurse with long duty hours, the third has no father, his mom is a sex worker. The children's efforts are helped by a local young man working in a shop, Shahruk, who loves a local damsel whom he has named Kajol. As love blossoms even in formidable situations, it is shown how the Onko or calculation of life, becomes solvable and easier, if few people with good intentions join hands together to build up something good, even may be a small institution to help the society in times of need.
A brilliant film in these times of political unrest, greed, cruelty, disbelief and shameless torture by people in power upon the countless people, esp children of the society, who suffer, yet their voices do not get to reach out loud and clear to the top brass nor the stalwerts of our so called glitzy world.
An excellent film, no big names, no glamourous dancing bimbettes, no car chase or rapes, yet the music is pleasant, dialogues of the kids so innocent but full of truth, drone photography and cinematography so beautiful, that one would love to see the film again, and yet again.
