Extremely disappointing. With a cast such as this, and Steven Soderbergh directing, one might expect much more. However, the largely improvised dialogue tends to meander, certain threads dissolve, others fail to cohere, and as a result the dramatic quotient remains fairly level throughout. The performances of Candice Bergen and Gemme Chan stand out -- Bergen's for vividness, Chen's for its nuance. Lucas Hedges, in contrast, is so affectless and inexpressive that he seems to suck energy out of the scenes he's in.
(It was only well after watching the movie that I realized the pun of the title; i.e., that letting them talk was precisely what Soderbergh had his cast do during their time aboard the Queen Mary. Would that the results have been more engaging.)
