Has plot and great performance by Anthony Hopkins. One of a few Brad Pitt’s performances that I like -besides Interview with the Vampire, and Fight Club-. A lot of character’s development.
To understand this movie, you must understand character, human vulnerability and be sympathetic. It’s a movie about life, no death itself.
The reason you see a personification of “Death”, very knowledgeable of languages, places, and very naive about simply things as chewing food, implies the reason he has come to live among us. He has performed his job as “bus driver to the next place”. He is there just to pick them up at the very end. He’s witnessed people sometimes want to let go. Also sometimes they don’t. He just doesn’t know why people ponder life differently, because he has never been exposed to life itself, which has allowed him to see humans from certain perspective, but he is missing the everyday life details that makes life enjoyable among its flaws. Pleasure, pain, passion, struggle, bonding relationships. The only way to understand it is becoming human itself and being vulnerable to the same limitations and desires.
One thing to point out about one of the comments made about Susan
Understanding this movie requires empathy and sympathy for individual’s human nature.
