I was greatly disappointed in the movie.
I know it isn't wise to expect a movie to be like the books but I don't think it unreasonable to movie at least one thing in common with the book. To be honest the movie does have one thing in common with the book, the name, that's it. Everything else has been almost completely changed.
The most annoying part is how they change the personality of Artemis Fowl. In the movie they make him out to be some child that got thrust into the world of magic while looking for his dad. An innocent child doing the best he could in the given situation. That simply isn't the case. In the books he is a cold and calculating youth. He had no problem using and harming others to reach his goal, that goal usually being gold. He was obsessed with the People and their gold. His moral compass does develop a bit throughout the book series but for the most part he isn't portrayed as a caring young man.
To a lot of people who are watching the movie because of the books this is a complete disappointment.
