If you like the original Disney animated Mulan film then this probably isn't for you. This movie is more akin to a Chinese action film like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon but not as spectacular. There were multiple parts to the plot that didn't make sense, important plot points were glazed over and some things just didn't need to be there. The witch character was pointless. The decision to join the army was utterly downplayed. The biggest misgiving was instead of having Mulan train with her comrades to become 'a man' with her unique perspective and intelligence, they give her magic powers which makes her better than everyone. It's a lazy lesson and isn't satisfying. This one isn't good.
