Loving it so far, the Goonies vibe is a perfect fit for exploring a new part of the Galaxy for a new generation of fans and, as an old fan, I was smiling the whole time. I would give it 5 stars if the runtime was longer, 30 minutes is simply not enough time to tell a full story in this setting which is, sadly, a flaw Star Wars shows seem intent on keeping.
The production value is great, as it should be considering this is Lucasfilm/Disney. The score is fantastic (not surprising from Star Wars), visuals, costume design, and set pieces are all really well done. There hasn’t been a moment where I’ve thought “wow that set LOOKS like a set”.
The story is more interesting than I expected it to be, I can see where the character arcs for the kids is going from 12 parsecs away but that doesn’t detract from anything. The lore it’s adding to the universe is fascinating. I was already excited to see a normal everyday planet rather than Desert Poverty Wasteland #6, but episode 2 goes into some stuff that elevated the mystery and interest beyond what I expected and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds.
All in all a fun watch, don’t let angry right wing dude bros complaining about DEI and Wokeness dissuade you from watching it.
